September 24th The Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham

"For a Christian, pilgrimage is not a ritual act as it is for a Muslim. It has not even, properly speaking, a place in the liturgy. It does, however, resolve into action one of the vital ideas of Christianity -- that is the idea of  transition, of the Easter transformation. At this point it is bound up with the most essential part of Christian life -- the need to strive after another way of living, to deny one's own personality in order to follow Someone else. . . In a sense, pilgrimage is the literal translation into everyday life of one of the most frequent of Christ's injunctions; 'Arise and walk', he said to those whom he healed, and 'Come, take up your cross' to those who wished to follow him".
